We are very excited for all that 2014 has to bring. If you've been out recently you will notice some changes - we will be opening a new expanded tasting room and re-planting some of the vines as you enter the property.

The BJC team is busily putting together some fun stuff to do out here as the weather gets warmer, and as always, some new wines to try.

We hope to see the usual suspects and some new faces to share all the excitement with!

KANSAS WINES ENJOY SUCCESS AT 2013 JEFFERSON CUP WINE COMPETITION

The season for wine competitions opens each fall with the Jefferson Cup. This international invitational is truly an award to aspire to, and we're proud to say that we earned a Jefferson Cup, this year for our Veritas! Also, Arome was awarded a Medal of Excellence, equivalent to a Gold medal elsewhere.

Congratulations are also in order to our friends at White Tail Run who won a Jefferson Cup for their Semi-Sweet Seyval, a Medal of Excellence for their Oaked Chambourcin, and Medals of Merit for their Dry Chambourcin and their dry Seyval.  Hearty congratulations also to our friends at Holy Field who won a Jefferson Cup for their Valvin Muscat, a Medal of Excellence for their Melody and several Medals of Excellence. Kansas wine is on the move!

Many people have begun to call the Jefferson Cup Invitational, the “Olympics” of wine competitions. This competition is not open to every winery willing to submit an entrance fee. Rather only best of the best are selected, culled from tastings and competitions in America throughout 2013.  The Jefferson Cup Invitational was founded in 1999 in honor of Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson fathered our constitution, helped champion the international concept of human rights and was a seminal figure in America’s cultural, culinary (including wine) and agricultural history. Following the Jefferson Cup competition, the remaining wines are donated for an annual event that benefits children and adults in need. This year the Jefferson Cup raised more than $100,000 for Angel Flight Central.

Good news, BlueJacketeers! We went 3 for 3 in the Finger Lakes international Wine competition again this year. We were awarded a prestigious double-gold medal for our Majestic Red (2011), a silver medal for our Chardonel (2013), and a bronze medal for the Dry Rose Panapè (2013) at the 14th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. The competition was held at the Rochester Plaza, March 29-30, 2014 in Rochester, NY.

All three of the award-winning wines are dry wines. Double Gold medal winner, Majestic Red, is a 2011 vintage, limited edition, Norton-Chambourcin blend. The silver medal winner, a 2013 vintage Chardonel, is a dry white wine made predominately from its namesake grape, which is a hybrid of the Chardonnay and Seyval grapes. The 2013 vintage Panapè won bronze and is a dry rosè style wine made from the St.Vincent grape.

This year, the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition boasted over 3,756 wine entries from 887 wineries, 20 countries, 6 Canadian Provinces, and all 50 United States. The competition judges awarded 140 Double Gold, 284 Gold, 1,466 Silver and 1,294 Bronze medals this year. “This year’s Finger Lakes International Wine Competition has the most diverse international group of judges ever assembled on the East Coast of the U.S. to give the entrants the best possible global palate and global opinion.” said Peter Parts - the competition founder.

As always, thanks for your tireless support, we wouldn't be here if not for our loyal customers.

The 2012 Mid-American Wine Competition was held July 13-15, 2012, in Iowa, and focused only on the wines of the Midwest. This competition gives wineries the opportunity to have their wines judged against carefully selected food-friendly dishes. This is the first competition in the United States to offer this format.

Once again, Kansas wineries did very well, and among them BlueJacket Crossing Winery was awarded a Gold Medal for its 2010 Chambourcin. Congratulations to all of the Kansas wineries honored in this year’s competition.

IT’S TIME FOR KANSAS WINE!
